The sofa is the item people sell most in Dubai. It is also the item people price too high. You remember what you paid for it. The buyer does not. A used sofa buyer (مشتري كنب مستعمل) looks at three things only: the frame, the foam and the fabric. In that order.
Once you know these three checks, you can guess your own price quite well.
The three checks
- Frame: does it move or make a noise when you push down on an arm?
- Foam: do the cushions come back up, or stay flat?
- Fabric: tears, stains, sun marks, and on leather, cracks.
The frame decides if there is a sale at all
You can work around most problems. You cannot work around a bad frame. Push down hard on the front of each arm and listen. A good wooden frame stays quiet and does not move. A weak one creaks, or bends a little under your hand. When a frame is gone, the sofa is finished. A new frame costs more than the sofa is worth.
Foam is what makes a sofa look old or new
Sit on each seat. Stand up. Watch what happens. Good foam comes back in a second or two. Tired foam stays flat. Flat foam is what makes a sofa look old in photos, even when the cloth is fine. A used sofa loses value faster than wooden furniture, about ten per cent a year. Most of that drop is the foam inside, not the cloth on top.
Fabric, leather and the Dubai sun
Dubai adds one more thing that most guides miss. The sun. A sofa that sits near a window loses colour on one side. This can happen in just two or three years. Take a photo of both sides and be honest about it. The buyer will see it at the door anyway, and a surprise at the door helps no one.

Four things that raise a sofa offer
- Clean it. Vacuum it, even under the cushions. This is the best twenty minutes you can spend.
- Take photos in daylight, straight on. Photos in lamp light make good sofas look tired.
- Sell the armchairs and footstool with it. A full set is worth much more than the parts sold alone.
- Say if the covers come off and can be washed. It helps the price, and most sellers forget to say it.

Beds and mattresses, in short
Beds follow the same rules as sofas. Solid wood is good. Thin board is not. The headboard matters too. Mattresses are stricter. For a used mattress (مرتبة مستعملة), hygiene is the whole market. How much can I sell a used sofa for in Dubai?
Most fall between AED 300 and 2,000, based on type and condition. A clean sofa often sells for 30 to 60 per cent of what it first cost.
Will you buy a sofa with a small tear?
Usually yes, at a lower price, as long as the frame is strong. Photograph the tear instead of hiding it, and the quote will hold on the day.
Do you take the sofa apart to get it out?
Where a sofa can come apart, yes, and it is included. A big L-shape that came in through a window is the one case that may need a quick site visit first.
Should I pay to clean a sofa before selling it?
Rarely. Paid cleaning often costs more than it adds. A good vacuum and a damp cloth do most of the work.
Do you buy sofa beds?
Yes. Test the mechanism first, and say if it opens smoothly, as that is the first thing checked on arrival.
