Second hand furniture buying in Dubai is a crowded trade with a very wide quality range. Some operators run proper warehouses and repair workshops. Others are one man with a borrowed pickup and an optimistic idea of what your sofa is worth. Both will answer the phone the same way.
Six questions separate them, and you can ask all six in under two minutes.
Ask these six questions
- Can you quote from photos before you visit?
- Is dismantling included, or charged separately?
- When exactly do I get paid?
- What is your collection window, not just the day?
- Do you take the items you cannot resell?
- Will the price change on the day, and under what circumstances?
Can you quote from photos?
This is the single most useful question. A buyer who prices from photos is confident enough in their own market knowledge to commit before seeing the goods. A buyer who insists on visiting first, with no indication of a range, is keeping their options open so they can anchor low once you have already given up your afternoon.

Is dismantling included?
Wardrobes, beds and large dining tables have to come apart to leave most Dubai properties. That labour is real, and someone pays for it. On a properly run job it is absorbed into the offer and never mentioned again. On a badly run one it appears as a fee at the door, after the furniture is already half out of the bedroom.
Get the answer before anyone arrives, and get it in writing on WhatsApp. Ours is set out on the what we buy page.
When do I get paid?
Before loading. That is the only answer that protects you. Once your furniture is in someone else’s van, any dispute is one you will lose. Payment on collection is standard practice among established buyers and there is no good reason to accept anything else.
Pay on delivery is not a thing in this trade. If a buyer wants to take the furniture now and settle after they have checked it at their warehouse, the answer is no.
How direct buyers compare to the alternatives
| Direct buyer | Online classifieds | Municipality disposal | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Money | One agreed sum | Potentially highest per item | None |
| Time | One visit | Days to weeks of messages | Booking plus wait |
| Effort | Send photos | List, reply, negotiate, arrange access | Move items to ground level |
| Takes everything | Yes | Only what someone wants | Yes, but nothing is paid |
| Strangers at your door | One scheduled team | Many, unscheduled | None |
There is a fuller comparison in our piece on what used furniture is actually worth, which explains why the highest theoretical price and the highest realised price are rarely the same number.

What a well run collection looks like
A price agreed from photos and not revisited. A two or three hour arrival window rather than a whole day. A team that brings its own tools and blankets. Dismantling done without arguing about it. Cash counted out before the first item moves. The property left clear rather than half emptied of only the profitable pieces.
None of that is unusual. It is simply what happens when the person quoting is the person doing the job.
Common questions
Are second hand furniture buyers in Dubai licensed?
Established buyers operate as registered trading businesses. Many are mobile and work without a public showroom, which is normal for the trade, so judge them on process rather than on whether they have a shopfront.
Do second hand buyers take everything in the house?
A resale-only buyer takes what sells. A clearance buyer takes the lot, including the items with no value, and prices the job as a whole. If you need the property empty, ask for the second kind.
Is it safe to have buyers come to my home?
With a scheduled, named team, yes. The riskier route is online classifieds, where you invite a stream of unvetted strangers to your address at times they choose.
Can I get more than one quote?
Yes, and you should. Send the same photo set to two or three buyers. Comparing quotes built from identical information is the only fair comparison.
What if I only have one or two items?
Still worth asking. Single pieces are collected, though larger lots are worth more per trip and are easier to price generously.
